One Million Journeys, One Destination

The journey between "here" and "there" is filled with movement and meaning. How is this movement shaping – and being shaped by – identity, spirituality, public policy, and civic life? Spirit and Place will explore the dynamic passages of peoples, places, and ideas through 40 events held in ten days of November with the intent to create a citywide celebration and conversation around the theme of journey to catalyze civic engagement and creative collaboration.

The Indianapolis Public Library, in partnership with The Immigrant Welcome Center and The Indiana State Museum, presents a dynamic exhibit that explores the 2014 Spirit and Place theme of Journey. One Million Journeys, One Destination engages the community by exhibiting the narratives and photographs of the people of Indianapolis that showcase the varied journeys we all have traveled to reach our city.

In order to create the exhibit, we need your help! All members of the community are invited to submit a photo and story about their family's journey to Indianapolis. What is your family's story? Whether an immigrant, refugee, or part of the great migration of African Americans from the South, we want to know how your family settled in Indianapolis.

Please join us in celebrating the opening of the exhibit on November 12, 2014 6:00-8:00pm at Central Library.
